Perforations at fractures
The second step in hydraulic fracture modeling is to complete the Perforations at Fractures form (simulate > Hydraulic Fractures > Perforations at Fractures) so you can create perforations related to a fracture definition. The form provides a quick way to complete the Perforations tab of the Well table, where you can later edit, delete or add perforations.
- On the Perforations at Fractures form, select the fracture definition on which you want to create the perforations. These perforations are created at the positions of the fracture that you will define in this form.
- Set the completion type: Open hole or Cased hole. Open hole creates one large perforation along the horizontal section of the wellbore. Cased hole creates as many perforations as there are fractures in the fracture definition.
-
Specify the perforation properties:
Length per stage Perforation length per hydraulic fracture stage. The length is a distance around the fracture. For example, if the perforation length is 20 m, the fracture occurs in the middle with a 10 m perforation length on either side. The value is ignored for open hole completion types.
Wellbore diameter Specify the wellbore diameter.
- Click OK to create the perforations and move to the next step in hydraulic fracture modeling, see Creating tartan grids.
